Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are roundhouse kicking their way back into theatres this weekend in the latest mutation of the comic book franchise.

It's been 24 years since the first film hit movie screens, but some things haven't changed for brothers Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael (voiced this time by Johnny Knoxville, Jeremy Howard, Noel Fisher and Alan Ritchson respectively.)

They're still sewer-dwelling, wisecracking, pizza-crazed heroes in a half shell. But this version, produced by Transformers' Michael Bay, has undergone a Dark Knight makeover.

The result – according to CBC film reviewer Eli Glasner – is icky, especially when it comes to Michelangelo's romantic overtures for reporter April O'Neil (played by Megan Fox).
