Season 5 of Game of Thrones is coming

HBO has confirmed that the fifth season of Game of Thrones will air its first episode on April 12. 

So what's in store for fans of the epic series?

Season four finished with the epic Battle of Castle Black, Stannis Baratheon's arrival at the Wall and Arya Stark boarding a ship to Braavos. 

Series has huge fan base

Speculation about new casting and plot lines abound on fan sites like Westeros.org. 

Every minute detail in trailers and on-location photos is analyzed within an inch of its life.

If previous seasons are anything to go by, it's safe to assume that no character's life is safe and that there will be a lot of blood, gore and fighting.  

What will happen in Westeros this season?

Some clues about Season five may be revealed in a one-off Game of Thrones special called A Day In The Life.

The special will be broadcast on HBO on Sunday February 8th and is thought to be a "behind the scenes" feature. 

In the meantime legions of fans are counting the days until April 12. 

And until then the only people who know the long-term outcome of Game of Thrones are executive producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss, and the author himself, George R.R. Martin.
