David Guetta has had quite a year. The pioneering French dance music DJ has been touring non-stop and has weathered a messy divorce from Cathy Guetta, his wife and business partner of 22 years.

Now he's released his sixth studio album Listen which has been informed, in part, by his private life.

In an interview with CBC Guetta revealed "It was a moment of questioning myself and maybe the lyrics are a little deeper than the usual dance music but the beat is really driving. Maybe it's a wider range of emotions."

He added that he tries to change the formula with each new album so that it doesn't sound like he is repeating himself.

The musical trailblazer is known for his collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Sia. This time out Guetta re-teamed with Minaj and employed a new supporting cast including John Legend and Emeli Sandé.

But despite the different direction he is following in Listen, Guetta still wants people to dance to his music. He adds "maybe they can be dancing and crying."
