A Hollywood actress who police say was drunk and unruly during a flight from New York to Paris on Sunday will spend a second night in custody in Gander.
Harlee McBride, 65, was a passenger aboard an Air France Boeing 777 that diverted to Gander after the crew was unable get her to co-operate.
RCMP Const. Sheldon Walsh said the flight made an emergency landing because the crew felt McBride posed a safety risk to passengers.
"The behaviour in general was concerning and she was screaming, yelling," said Walsh.
"I believe she threw a tray of food. And she was frightening other passengers. And they were fearful it would escalate. And she wasn't listening to the command of the crew."
Walsh said the crew had to handcuff McBride to her seat.
When the plane landed in Gander the RCMP boarded and arrested McBride.
McBride appeared in provincial court this afternoon where a judge set bail at $10,000.
McBride agreed to pay the amount, but the money will not be forwarded until Wednesday.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 18, and she will be permitted to have someone appear on her behalf.
The actress is best known for the R-rated 1977 film, Young Lady Chatterley, and its sequel.
She's been married to Hollywood actor Richard Belzer, of Law and Order fame, since 1985.
In an ironic twist, McBride played an Air France stewardess in a 1976 Charles Bronson movie, according to imdb.com.
