Five years after Inglorious Basterds and Brad Pitt is killing Nazis again, this time in Fury, David Ayer's unapologetically bloody depiction of the dying days of the Second World War.

The movie stars Pitt as battle-hardened Sergeant Don "Wardaddy" Collier who leads a crew—including End of Watch's Michael Pena​ and former Transformers star Shia LaBeouf— into enemy territory in an M4 Sherman tank, nicknamed Fury.

The R-rated movie is already grabbing headlines for its graphic violence, including one scene where a tank commander's head is blown off during battle.

"When it comes to authenticity Fury is unstoppable," says CBC's film critic Eli Glasner.

"This is the most realistic, not to mention brutal, view of war since Saving Private Ryan."

"But for all its authenticity," says Glasner, "Fury treads a predictable path."

Fury opens in theatres Friday.
