Bill Murray and St. Vincent stars hit soggy red carpet at TIFF 2014

Bill Murray stormed a soggy red carpet in Toronto last night at the premiere of his new movie St. Vincent.

Despite the downpour, the much-loved comedian took time to greet his dedicated fans, some of whom had lined up for hours.

An army of umbrella-armed publicists marched his well-heeled co-stars, Melissa McCarthy and Naomi Watts, to the Princess of Wales Theatre where St. Vincent made its world premiere.

The comedic drama stars Murray as a curmudgeonly Vietnam veteran named Vincent who becomes a reluctant babysitter for the kid next door—a performance that's already generating Oscar buzz.

When it comes to connecting with his character, Murray said he could relate to Vincent's connection with kids.

"Let's face it," Murray quipped."Your own kids are one thing, but someone else's kids are really a problem. When are these people going to get their kids to be self-sufficient?" he dead-panned. "The kid is ten!"

The drenched premiere capped an eventful second day of the festival, which organizers had declared Bill Murray Day.

See how St. Vincent co-star and Irish actor, Chris O'Dowd, would celebrate his very own day in the video above.

The Toronto International Film Festival runs through Sept. 14.
