Weird Al Yankovic may want to circle Feb. 1, 2015 on his tour calendar if fans have their way. A petition to have the Tacky artist play the halftime show at Super Bowl XLIX smashed its original goal of 50,000 signatures Thursday morning. It's now aiming for a whopping 75,000.
Ed Ball, a Yankovic fan from Seattle, says he launched the petition on Change.org after hearing some Seahawks fans suggest Justin Bieber or Selena Gomez as possible acts.
"I do not want to sit through another Black Eyed Peas disaster or see Nicki Minaj verbal-vomit some lyrics that I cannot understand. And do you want Miley Cyrus?!? Because this is how you will end up with Miley Cyrus!"
Ball also suggested that some of the many artists who Yankovic has parodied in the past could join him on stage "adding more prestige and star power."
When Mandatory Fun debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 album chart, it was the first time a comedy album has topped the chart in over 50 years. (RCA)
Weird Al is currently riding a wave of success this summer.
His 14th studio album Mandatory Fun hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart last month, driven by his wildly popular "Eight videos in eight days" campaign.
It released daily Vevo and YouTube videos parodying top hits like Pharrell Williams' Happy and Lorde's Royals, garnering millions of views and massive media attention.
So far, neither the National Football League or 'Weird Al' have publicly commented on the petition.
