Celebrity chef to open Nova Scotia food festival

Celebrity chef, writer and world-travelling TV host Anthony Bourdain is coming to the Annapolis Valley in November.

The Emmy-award winning television host will be the special guest during the opening night of Devour! The Food Film Fest on Nov. 12 in Wolfville, N.S.

Bourdain, whose liberal use of profanity and sarcasm has earned him a bit of a bad boy reputation, is known for his fondness of alcohol and his bold consumption of exotic dishes around the world.

Some of the odd foods Bourdain has sampled in his travels include sheep testicles, ant eggs and a raw seal eyeball as part of a traditional Inuit seal hunt.

"We are thrilled that an international writer, journalist and culinary personality like Anthony Bourdain wants to be part of Devour!" said Michael Howell, the executive director of Devour! The Food Film Fest.

Devour! is a five-day international festival celebrating food on film and the culture of food. The opening gala will take place in the Fountain Commons at Acadia University.

Bourdain is currently the host of CNN's Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown and is a judge on ABC's The Taste, as well as Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and The Layover on the Travel Channel.

Bourdain is also a New York Times bestselling author whose book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly propelled him to international stardom.

Lia Rinaldo, the managing director of Devour!, said Bourdain selected his "all-time favourite food film" to open the festival — Eat Drink Man Woman, directed by Ang Lee.

"He has personally selected this film, will participate in an audience Q&A session afterwards and then conclude the night by hosting a one-hour book signing at the Devour! opening gala post-reception," she said.

A limited number of tickets, which include the opening gala, gala film and post-reception, are being sold through TicketPro.ca.
