After a slate of successful movies under his belt, Canadian actor and screenwriter Jay Baruchel is heading back to TV.
The Montrealer will star in the upcoming series Man Seeking Woman, a 10-episode project slated to debut in 2015 and based on Simon Rich's book of short stories The Last Girlfriend on Earth, according to film and TV industry publications Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
The half-hour comedy — about a single man's dating woes — will air on American channel FX's sister network FXX, which also carries shows such as It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Ali G Rezurection and has a comedy project from Tracy Morgan on hold as he recovers from a crash.
Rich, a New York author, humourist and one of the youngest writers ever hired for veteran TV sketch show Saturday Night Live, will also serve as showrunner and an executive producer on the new series.
SNL's Canadian creator, Lorne Michaels, is also one of the show's executive producers. Joining Baruchel onscreen are co-stars Eric André, Britt Lower and Maya Erskine.
Baruchel previously starred in Judd Apatow's 2001 Fox sitcom Undeclared, a follow-up to the filmmaker's earlier cult TV hit Freaks and Geeks.
Baruchel's recent movie credits include How to Train Your Dragon 2, RoboCop, The Art of the Steal, This is the End, Cosmopolis and Goon, which he also co-wrote.
