Inuk throat singer Tanya Tagaq, rap megastar Drake, and Ontario folk singer Basia Bulat made the short list for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize.

Now in its ninth year, the Polaris Prize is awarded to the artist or band that creates the best Canadian full-length album each year — regardless of genre, label or sales.

Here's the list announced Tuesday in Toronto:

More than 200 journalists and music industry experts chose the finalists from a 41-album list released in June.

An 11-member grand jury will select the $30,000 top prize winner at a gala event in Toronto on Sept. 22.

The nine other shortlisted artists get $2,000 each.
