Kelley Mooney's religious version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is bringing the P.E.I. musician continued success, with a billboard listing and concert offers.
Mooney rewrote the lyrics to retell the Easter story and received copyright permission to record the song in 2010. She performed it with a children's choir and put the song up on Youtube that July, where over the next four years it picked up more than a million views.
Then, just before Easter this year, the video was posted to Godtube, an internet site that specializes in Christian themed videos. Over the Easter weekend it was watched more than five million times.
Combined views on the two services as of Thursday morning were 9.2 million.
Success of the video has Mooney's CD sales booming, and she's on Billboard's Christian digital music chart.
"I fell off the couch. I don't know what it means. I don't," she said.
"It's baffling to me. I don't understand it at all. It's quite the thing, and I took screen shots of all these charts."
Mooney has also been receiving emails from people, telling her how much the song has meant to them.
She's also been invited to perform for different groups, including being flown to New York for a one-hour private concert.
