The Grand Budapest Hotel returns movie audiences to the vivid and idiosyncratic world of filmmaker Wes Anderson.

Featuring a star-studded cast, the film is filled with intricate, interlocking tales that ultimately centre on a rich patron and her lover — a dedicated and preening concierge — as well as a missing, priceless painting.

Anderson's classic mix of cartoon and consequence, of wit and melancholy, gives weight to this well-paced, candy-coloured confection, says CBC's Eli Glasner.
