Carole King is getting a special honour, with Grammy Award organizers naming the American singer its MusiCares person of the year for 2014.
The U.S. Recording Academy announced her selection today, adding that the bestselling singer-songwriter will be honoured by performers such as James Taylor, Lady Gaga, Jason Mraz, the Dixie Chicks and Bette Midler.
Further tribute participants will be announced at a later date.
MusiCares is the academy's charitable foundation and its annual fundraiser is typically held in the days running up to each year's Grammy Awards gala.
King is being recognized for her career and philanthropic work. She will be feted at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Jan. 24. The 2014 Grammy Awards gala takes place on Jan. 26.
She is known for writing and performing scores of hit songs — including Will You Love Me Tomorrow, You've Got a Friend, Natural Woman, I Feel the Earth Move and You've Got a Friend — and her compositions have been covered by more than 1,000 artists, from the Beatles to Barbra Streisand to Mary J. Blige.
A four-time Grammy winner and the first female artist ever to win all the top Grammy trophies (record, song and album of the year as well as best pop vocal performance for 1971's Tapestry), King received a lifetime achievement award as part of the 2013 festivities in February.
U.S. President Barack Obama awarded her the Gershwin Prize for popular song in May and King is also a member of both the Songwriters and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame.
