Rolling Stones headed back on the road

After teasing fans for days, iconic British rockers The Rolling Stones have unveiled details of their latest tour, 50 and Counting.

The band initially released a video on its official website Wednesday morning that showed frontman Mick Jagger calling up his bandmates for a video conference via cellphone.

Bandmate Ronnie Wood, who is also a visual artist, is depicted painting city names — Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Boston and Philadelphia — onto a canvas. "It's about time, gents. I've been waiting for this call," he declares.

"See you at rehearsal," Jagger replies.

A subsequent, longer video revealed further details, including the individual stops, and each bandmember discussing getting back on the road.

"When you get back together again, you've had so many years of experience, it's very easy to restart," Jagger says.

"The communication between me and Charlie and Keith and Ronnie is really quite easy."

Starting in Los Angeles in May, the tour will roll from west to east.

Toronto is the sole Canadian date so far, with the group to touch down on May 25. The city has often hosted surprise gigs and the quartet's rehearsals before they launched into world tours.

The rockers also announced they'd play London's Hyde Park on July 6 — almost 44 years to the day after their first show there — and that former bandmate Mick Jones would will be featured as a special guest throughout the tour.

The playlist will celebrate the high-energy band's classic hits, including Gimme Shelter, Paint It Black, Jumping Jack Flash and It's Only Rock and Roll, but will also feature "lesser known gems and a cover or two," the band said.

Teasing fans

The Stones stoked anticipation and fan appetite for a new tour over the past week, with billboards posted in major cities emblazoned with the band's iconic logo, titles of their hit songs (including Satisfaction and Start Me Up) along with the word "Wednesday." They also featured countdowns on social media accounts such as Facebook and Twitter.

Speculation that the venerable rock quartet would hit the road again have swirled for several years, especially around the band's 50th anniversary, which took place in 2012.

Instead, the band — Jagger, Wood, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts — released a greatest hits set, promoted films about their career and played a handful of anniversary shows in London, Brooklyn, N.Y. and Newark, N.J.

The aging group's last tour was A Bigger Bang, which began in 2005 and criss-crossed the globe, eventually ending two years later.

A tour was expected after the Stones signed a deal with concert promoters AEG Live and recently signed on to play this summer's Glastonbury Festival in the U.K.
