There will be no lockout at Evraz Place today, officials at the Regina entertainment complex have announced — and that news appears to bode well for the Juno Awards.
Evraz Place had issued notice that it would be locking out hundreds of employees at noon Thursday.
The workers' union had previously issued strike notice and said it would ban overtime starting this morning.
However, on Wednesday, the provincial government got involved, appointing a special mediator to help resolve the contract dispute.
Officials at Evraz Place told reporters early Thursday morning that they are holding off any action so the mediator can do his job.
That presumably means job action is off the table for the time being as well, although there was no immediate comment from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union Thursday morning.
The labour-management dispute has postponed at least one major event — a powwow — and concerns had been raised about the Juno Awards, which are being held at the Brandt Centre, which is part of Evraz Place, on April 21.
Now, it appears the people planning the Junos may not have to worry about a strike or lockout disrupting their event.
