Spot this green square on your social media networks? That's a symbol of protest from visual effects artists. Hundreds of VFX workers gathered outside last Sunday's Oscar ceremony to protest the dire state of their industry. When Rhythm and Hues Supervisor Bill Westenhofer accepted the Oscar for his company's visual effects work on Life of Pi, he was played off the stage before he could tell audiences the company is bankrupt, and the industry is suffering. Scott Ross, founder of Digital Domain and former general manager of Industrial Light and Magic, explains why even Oscar winners can go broke in the VFX industry's race to the bottom.
