Jane Austen's 1813 novel of manners Pride and Prejudice revolves around clever and headstrong Elizabeth Bennet and the proud and aloof Fitzwilliam Darcy in Georgian England. The couple have a series of miscommunications before they eventually (spoiler alert) find love. The book, initially published in three hardcover volumes and priced at 18 shillings, was an immediate success.
