The Peanuts gang, immortalized in Charles Schulz' beloved comic, is heading back to the big screen.
Loveable loser Charlie Brown, his dynamic dog Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang will star in a new animated film slated for release Nov. 25, 2015.
20th Century Fox, which has acquired the rights to Schulz' Peanuts comic strip, made the announcement Tuesday.
Fox's animation arm Blue Sky Studios will produce the as-yet-untitled film. The unit previously produced the Ice Age films and Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!
Schulz' son Craig and grandson Bryan are co-writing the screenplay (with Cornelius Uliano) and will also serve as producers on the project.
Steve Martino, who directed Ice Age: Continental Drift and Horton Hears a Who, will helm the long-gestating project.
The upcoming film's release will mark the 65th anniversary of Schulz' Peanuts strip as well as the 50th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas, the first of the cartoon gang's many TV specials.
The first Peanuts feature film — A Boy Named Charlie Brown — hit theatres in 1969 and earned both critical praise as well as an Oscar nomination for its music. Subsequent Peanuts films included Snoopy Come Home, Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown and Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown.
